About Matthew Modlin

I’ve always been wired to take responsibility early, learn quickly, and build something better than what I stepped into.

I was born in Syracuse, New York and moved to North Carolina at age nine. Growing up homeschooled and in a household where family health challenges required real responsibility, I learned early that work, discipline, and reliability weren’t optional — they were expected. That mindset shaped everything that followed.

As a teenager, I was active in 4-H, Teen Council, and FFA, finishing 13th nationally in Environmental Science. At the same time, I was already working and running small side ventures — buying and reselling products, taking odd jobs, and learning firsthand how value is created through effort and initiative.

At 16, I started working at Mainstreet Pizza and Deli and quickly became a do-whatever-it-takes team member — cooking, serving, stocking, and helping run daily operations. That experience reinforced a core belief I still operate by today: no job is beneath you if it helps the business succeed.

While earning a Bachelor’s degree in Ministerial Studies from Hobe Sound Bible College, I worked multiple roles simultaneously, including:

  • Community organizing as a Field Associate with Americans for Prosperity

  • High-end landscaping for luxury properties in South Florida

  • Serving as a personal caregiver and operations coordinator for a private client, where I managed staff scheduling, logistics, and emergency planning during hurricane evacuations

In 2018, I returned to North Carolina and joined Construction Implement Depot (CID). I started in parts and inventory, but quickly expanded into operations, production coordination, and leadership responsibilities. Over time, my role grew to include:

  • Production scheduling and workflow improvement

  • ERP implementation and operational systems development

  • Sales operations and territory growth

  • Team leadership across multiple functions

  • Hands-on manufacturing experience including fabrication processes and equipment operation

Today, I lead national sales efforts for CID, building and developing a field team while driving growth in a competitive manufacturing market. My background allows me to operate comfortably from the shop floor to the strategy table — understanding both the operational realities and the financial drivers of the business.

In parallel, I founded MM Industries, a family-run trucking and logistics company built around disciplined execution, asset ownership, and long-term growth. Like everything I’ve done, it started small and is being built with a focus on efficiency, accountability, and scalable operations.

Across every role and venture, the pattern has been consistent:

  • Step into problems

  • Learn fast

  • Build systems

  • Develop people

  • Grow the business

I believe the best leaders are operators — people who understand the work, earn trust by doing it, and create environments where teams can perform and grow.

My long-term goal is to lead and build businesses at scale, combining hands-on operational experience with disciplined growth strategy to create lasting value.
