Focus

Focus

A simple topic with powerful results.

Tonight I’m preparing for a message that I will preach tomorrow night, Sept. 2nd. In my personal devotions, I have been reading about the life of Samson and the author of the devotional I was reading, brought out some interesting points. So that is where I derived my topic for this blog post from and the theme for my message.

What can you accomplish without focus? Or maybe I should ask it this way, can you accomplish things of purpose without focus? No. Everything that we do in this life worth anything requires hard work and that hard work is a product of focus. Many times I don’t think we process what we are doing as a specific focus when indeed it is. Take a relationship for example, will we have a profitable relationship if we never focus on the other individual? Will we successfully navigate our vehicle from one point to another without focus? Can we succeed in our work environment without focus? The answer to all of these questions is a resounding no, of course not.

Every action we make may not be a result of focus but when we are working on something specific many of our smallest actions are working synonymously with our focus to accomplish the goal we are attempting. The focus is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and not stopping until we have done what we have to arrive at the light. In the story of Samson, God had a special plan for Samson and that was for Samson to help deliver the children of Israel from the Philistines. Throughout the story of Samson, we see how God works through him and gives him incredible strength but we also see his glaring weaknesses. We see him lose focus of the task at hand several times throughout the story depicted in Judges Chapters 13-16.

Most of the distractions for Samson were in the form of a woman but there were also other things like anger and pride which got Samson to lose focus of the plan that God had for his life. I’m a firm believer that God has a plan for each of our lives. I also am a firm believer that there will be an infinite amount of distractions that will be thrown at us by the devil and life in general that will sidetrack us from the plan that God has for our lives. Even if you have no belief in God, you will still get distracted from what is important to you. This is why we have to focus, anything of consequence requires focus.

So FOCUS!!!
